Twelve tribes. A heritage to wear.
Explore the piecesJacob had twelve sons, and from them came the twelve tribes of Israel, whose names were engraved on the stones of the Choshen, the breastplate worn over the heart of Aharon the Kohen. Each tribe has its own stone, its own flag and its own blessing, yet all of them camp together around one centre.
רְאוּבֵן בְּכֹרִי אַתָּה כֹּחִי וְרֵאשִׁית אוֹנִי יֶתֶר שְׂאֵת וְיֶתֶר עָז
Reuben, thou art my first-born, My might, and the first-fruits of my strength; The excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power.

Jacob’s firstborn. Reuven stepped forward to save Yosef from his brothers, and the Sages remember him as the first to open the way of repentance.
